Do you find it is easier to read and review books that you have picked up on your own?

It's definitely easier to review books I've picked up on my own. Then again, I've never been asked by an author of publisher to review a book. I do use netgalley, but I am personally requesting ones I want to read and if I'm not enjoying it, there is an option to let the author/publisher know I do not plan on finishing and why.
