Do you participate in readathons and/or reading challenges?Kristin @Lukten av Trykksverte
I haven't heard of any readathons, so no.
I do participate in goodreads personal reading challenges. I have only succeeded one year, then proceeded to grossly overestimate myself the following year. I'm a bit behind (specifically two books), but still doing pretty well this year.
Audiobooks have been a huge help because I don't have to stop reading to do something. AND I'm still physically reading on top of it.
I don't participate in other people's challenges.
I am an audiobook addict! I joined an audiobook challenge this year, it was pretty easy.
ReplyDeleteI'm a recent convert. I still *actually* read, but I can make progress on two books in the same day, so it helps! And the time on the audiobook is time I would have previously spent not reading, so it doesn't even cut into that!
DeleteI forgot about the Goodreads Challenge, which I do do--although, technically, I always set my goal to either a reasonable one I know I will surpass or an extremely low number I will fly by early on in the year (like this year with a goal of 13 books). I don't consider it much of a challenge as a result. I don't like to read towards numeric goals.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy audio books now and then, but don't listen to many. I'm going on two months with my current one.
I hope you have a great weekend!
The only year I beat it, I actually picked a challenging number for myself. (I based it on the amount of books read the previous year and then added a little.)
DeleteUnfortunately, the following year (last year!), I went way overboard. After dealing with some personal things I decided I should read whatever I wanted, including middle grade books. Since I can read most middle grade books in much less than a day, I put a very high number in anticipating of "not cheating". Then I ended up getting a more than full time job on top of dealing with the personal stuff from the previous year and I fell woefully behind.
I do agree that number goals can be a bit arbitrary. While you can't officially do it on goodreads, I know many people who go by pages read, which allows for a better overall goal. I still like checking my progress on that little bar though. Even when I'm behind. ^^;
I love the Goodreads challenge!! :) It's so nice that everyone can set their own number and then take their time reaching it.
ReplyDeleteI agree, even though I have failed all years but one!
DeleteI also do the Goodreads one but not many others.
ReplyDeleteI kind of want to do others since it involves a group, but at the same time, I'm very lazy and don't like setting these things up. O_x
DeleteI like goodreads because it's simple. Pick a number, update your finished books, and that's it!
That's the best GIF ever. Just so you know. If you're ever interested in finding a readaton, I think Epic Reads does some!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I have the time for a readathon right now. Maybe when kid#2 gets into school (NEXT school year).
DeleteI love Rat Race. It's a dumb movie, but it makes me laugh.
