A Week in the Life

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Today is my last day at work.
The short version is that it's what is best for everyone right now.
This was not a last minute decision. I have been wanting to quit since last year.

Unfortunately, between schedule conflicts, illnesses, the kids, and life in general...
I have not been able to find the right work/home balance.
Both are suffering as a result.

I feel weird when people ask me about it.
Most people get it. A few seem to think I've lost my mind.
(Disclaimer: I am a cashier. I am not giving up a dream job.)

I feel like I'm being overly defensive about it.
Mostly I'm just tired of the questions.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

My son was officially accepted at my daughter's private school.
So, that's happening.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

The husband and I actually had a date day last weekend. Normally we don't get to because I work on the weekends. We are usually both too tired during the week.
Unfortunately... I made the request for a date thinking there were no conflicting plans and was hoping to do a whole day of it.
My daughter's troop meeting was that day! Oops.
Luckily they do one big meeting once a month and my dad was willing to take her to it.
It was nice, but I really wish I could go out without time limits!

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

I am positive more has happened since then, but with the resigning... It's been a very quick three weeks.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Watched

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

A Quiet Place

This one was really good.
A weird observation: Did anyone else get Signs flashbacks watching this?
(Don't let that deter you. It's an amazing film, but certain shots reminded me of Signs.)

LA to Vegas

I'll admit this one is stupid. However, it has moments where it's actually pretty funny.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Playing

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm

I really loved the first game and was hooked from the start. I'm two hours into this one and ... I don't know.

I hate Chloe's "power".
It's just smack-talking until your opponent is "eviscerated".
Except in most situations, this bullshit wouldn't work.
The first time it comes up, she's mouthing off to a bouncer who is literally twice her size after getting caught with a fake ID.
I don't necessarily expect realism in anything, but this one was a bit much.
(The second time it was used, it did actually make sense.)

Maybe I'm just too old for this?

I'm hoping it gets better because I do want to find out more about Chloe and Rachel's relationship and supposedly this is a good prequel.

Meme: Book Blogger Hop - April 27th - May 3rd

Have you ever thought of writing a respectful, but angry letter to an author to ask them WHY they killed off one of your favorite characters in a novel?Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books

No, I have not, but that is a good one. I kind of want to do this now!
I can not wait to go around and see if someone on the hop has done this.

[meme] My Favorite .. Game

My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info: My Favorite Meme.

This week's topic: Game

I actually have a rotating set, but this one really marked the turning point of gaming for me. It made me realize games could tell a story and not just be a puzzle to figure out*. I started playing it the summer after 5th grade (1995).

It has an epic storyline and deep characters.
It was the first game I played where the female characters were strong and who actually drove the story forward.

I own several versions of this game. Not all of them, but more than necessary.

I even made my own knitting chart for my "favorite things" scarf.
(link goes to the original idea/pattern, not my own.)

*I also like the traditional platformers. I just wasn't aware that games could also do something else.

How do you organize your books for review? Does it work for you or have you had to change it? Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews
I don't. It does not work well and I need to change it.

This week's topic: Upcoming Author

I don't have one. :(

Any suggestions?!

Meme: Book Blogger Hop - April 13th - 19th

Is there a fictitious town in a book that you would love to live in? What makes it appealing? Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews
I don't think I've read a book with a fictitious town. (Maybe James Herriot, but technically Darrowby is based on a real town so...)

I will say there are two fictional TV towns I would like to live in. They are basically the same town, though.

Stars Hollow, Connecticut

Bluebell, Alabama

Do you feel pressured to get your reviews posted in a timely manner?

Yes.

I'm just not very good at sticking to them.

[meme] Mailbox Monday #2

Mailbox Monday is a meme started by Marcia of To Be Continued. Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week.

I don't buy books that often so I'm going to have it as a once a month thing.

These were all on sale at some point during the month.

(As of April 9, 2018 The Sisters Brothers is still on sale for $1.99)

Book Spotlight: The Trauma Cleaner - Sarah Krasnostein

(This post contains affiliate links)

This book will be released on April 10, 2018.
(Review forthcoming!)
Before she was a trauma cleaner, Sandra Pankhurst was many things: husband and father, drag queen, gender reassignment patient, sex worker, small businesswoman, trophy wife. . . But as a little boy, raised in violence and excluded from the family home, she just wanted to belong. Now she believes her clients deserve no less.

A woman who sleeps among garbage she has not put out for forty years. A man who bled quietly to death in his living room. A woman who lives with rats, random debris and terrified delusion. The still life of a home vacated by accidental overdose.

Sarah Krasnostein has watched the extraordinary Sandra Pankhurst bring order and care to these, the living and the dead—and the book she has written is equally extraordinary. Not just the compelling story of a fascinating life among lives of desperation, but an affirmation that, as isolated as we may feel, we are all in this together.

My Crochet Along group is finally doing a pattern I want to do. The last several ones have been socks, shawls, and clutches. None of those would get used so I've been skipping. This month is a big purse and I've been wanting something new.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Spring break didn't go exactly as planned. We weren't planning on much, but had hoped to watch A Series of Unfortunate Events.
My daughter was very sick on Monday. She's better now, but it was pretty scary. This threw most of the week off.
My husband ended up working really late on Tuesday. Wednesday my daughter ended up going to a sleepover that turned into two nights! And I have to work the weekend. O_O

Mini Blog Ahead: Results

This challenge is host by Herding Cats & Burning Soup and is all about catching up and getting ahead with your blogging.

Blogging can be stressful. Especially when life gets busy with vacations, school, emergencies or when a dreaded blogging slumps hit. Blog Ahead aims at helping cut the stress by blogging ahead and creating a stockpile of scheduled posts that are ready to go when life gets a little crazy.

Whatever number of posts you have scheduled on that day...add 14 posts and THAT's the goal you're aiming for by the time the challenge ends.

*All challenge posts must go live after the event ends to count.

The results are in and ......

Schitt's Creek (via giphy)

Yes. Really.

I will freely admit that I just barely made it.
A few of the entries could also use a bit of polishing.
However, I just got off a long shift from work. My feet and legs hurt. I'm tired. It's been a long week.
They are fine as is, but the sprucing can wait until Monday.

Do you overextend yourself with too many reviews because you can't pass up a book in hopes you will get them all done or do you carefully plan and be sure you can fulfill the deadlines for all the promised reviews?Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews
Yes?
I've been struggling to finish any book to review right now. I do have a bit of a backlog on netgalley and finally had to give up on a couple.

I would love to be that person who carefully plan out and fulfill all the deadlines.

Meme: Tell Me Something Tuesday

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion created by Rainy Day Ramblings.
How often do you actually start reading a hot new release the day it hits shelves?
Pretty much never.
I don't want to commit to that "never have I ever" aspect because I have this nagging feeling in the back of my brain that I have for at least one or two books. I vaguely remember maybe book 7 of the Harry Potter series, but I still think I waited a week or two.

I grew up a bit on the broke side and buying a book at full hardcover price is, still, to this day, a bit mind blowing.

A Week in the Life

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

I finally updated my blog's look. It's not 100% what I wanted, but the basic ideas are there. (Armadillo and sunflowers.) My computer drawing skills are very rusty and it will take some practice for me to get them up to where I can do exactly what I want. Until then, I am grateful for royalty free stock and photos. (Credits)

Unfortunately the new look doesn't work on mobile. It doesn't look terrible, but it doesn't look right. This is definitely going to require some practice.

Oh, hey, it's Easter.
Is it weird that I didn't even realize when Easter was until last week?
I've been slacking.

We colored some eggs.
Behold, eggs.

And.... did some Easter Baskets. (+ two non-baskets for the adults)
That worm is mine. Those are some real OG TY Beanie Babies, btw. Tags and all.

For any new comers, my daughter (age 11) has Type 1 Diabetes.
Three years out and it's still a little tricky trying to find a balance of being sparing with candy and still have it be a treat.

I attempted to make deviled eggs for the first time. It did not turn out so well. I struggled to peel the eggs so they were ugly and I ended up over salting the yolks. 😰 I hate wasting food. The husband likes salt more than I do, so we shall see.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

It was an exciting week for TV!

Largely because the return of Roseanne. I was so excited I redownloaded the Contour app to watch it live. (I never watch anything live, so this was huge.)
It really does feel like we never left. Now I have to go binge the original to get my fix.

Santa Clarita Diet! I have been waiting for this since I binged the first season during the 2017 superbowl. Definitely enjoyed it. I do think it got a bit weirder, but it's drastically less gory than season 1.

What I haven't seen this week is A Series of Unfortunate Events! I have to hold off on this one since we watch it as a family. Luckily, it's Spring Break at our house and the husband finally doesn't have to work such long hours for the moment. We should be watching it slowly over the course of the week. :)

Alex, Inc also came out. I'm unsure about how I feel about it. It's definitely charming, but I feel like it's not all there. It's a bit too early to call, but I'll be watching.

I also checked out Splitting Up Together. I don't have a lot of feelings one way or the other towards this one. It wasn't bad, but it's a sitcom and it wasn't funny. I do like the idea of the show. I come from a mended & blended family that gets along, so it's nice to see this being portrayed on TV.
