A Week in the Life

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

So a lot is happening, but at the same time not right now. It's weird.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

So, I know this is late, but the GDRP stuff has me scared.
I don't have ads on my blog (I don't have enough views), but I do have affiliate links. I do make a point to label them clearly, but is that enough?

I have been frantically searching for a "dummies" version so I can double check.

Supposedly Google is on top of this (since I use blogger), but we have to check it ourselves.

Thus far it appears to be working, but my VPN is not being helpful with France. It keeps sending me to the Canadian site.
????????????

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

I really want to make a monthly rant meme where I can rant about anything - bookish or not. Thinking of calling it something like STFU Tuesday (or Thursday). I've had the idea for a while, but I feel like it could get out of control easily.
I have been prone to getting my rant on.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

I wish I had a place to go to for parenting issues.
I can not get into here. Just wish there was a place to go. I'm at my wit's end right now.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Playing

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

7 Days to Die

Okay, okay. I am not playing it.
My husband is and I watch him.
The simplest explanation is (again) that's it's minecraft crossed with zombie survival.

(Okay, technically minecraft has zombies, but they only come out at night and you have the option to turn combat off.)

A Week in the Life

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

It's the end of the school year so things are SUPER BUSY right now. D:
Last week I didn't do a Sunday Post because I was lazy and didn't work on the post as the week went on. Oops.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Mother's day was nice. It was a little boring, but nice.
I got two cards, 2 picture frames, and a new ereader with a skin.

The skin is from this artwork by Aimee Stewart.
Unfortunately, she does not have a good picture of this piece on her site, so I linked to DecalGirl. The back of the ereader actually has a better view of it!

Took my daughter to the Orthodontist. O_O
It was not as terrible as I thought it might be. It was just a consultation and completely free.
I am already liking it more than a regular dentist because they are completely transparent with the costs. We don't get charged for extra appointments or anything. What we agree to pay is what it costs for anything related to this thing. She goes in for the beginning of "phase 1" on Monday.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

The internet went out Thursday and didn't come back for a solid 24 hours. You would think I would get more stuff done, but I stream for background noise! D:

I did get a new reader, but while it did have some things on it. It didn't have a lot. ^^; Still found something to read, but I'm used to hundreds of choices. Not less than 10.
In hindsight, I could have just used the old one. 🤦

So my reliance on the internet may need some tuning.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

The fridge broke last week! I had to throw out half the food. It was caught early enough that it wasn't a huge issue, but I had an open bag of frozen chicken that leaked "juice" everywhere. There was no way I was saving anything that touched. Luckily, we had enough to cover the loss of food. The apartment complex replaced the fridge (yay!). Although it opens on the left instead of the right. This actually works better with the kitchen layout and it only confused me for a couple of days.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

My daughter's Drama Club performance finally happened so now she only has one more club meeting (a cast party). They did The Tempest (for kids). I am not really familiar with the Tempest, but it was kind of cute.

My daughter complained for months that she doesn't want to do drama next year because she had only a couple of lines.
We saw the play. She was the Boatswain and she was the main speaker for the first 5 minutes of the play. She had several lines, she just wasn't the main focus. O_O

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Currently waiting on the school to release the school supply list! They usually release it before school ends. We have to supply the books so I want to try and order from Thriftbooks this time. I could have done it last year, but I waited too long to get them here guaranteed by the time school started. (oops) This year, I'm poised and waiting. Unfortunately, they change the books around a lot so I can't go based on last year.

I actually love what they pick out at this school so I'm excited to find out what the list is.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Almost forgot...
Went and paid someone to cut my hair, then dyed it myself.
(Quitting my job means I can dye my hair whatever color I choose)

I really need to learn how to take good selfies.

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Playing

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

If you haven't played or heard of this one, a loose description of it is "2d minecraft", but it's really a lot more than that.
It's my go to for when I really stressed out. I have been having problems really focusing and something about this game allows me to actually just concentrate on it.
My husband will sit and watch me play AND ask questions. Trying to get him to play with me since you can do multiplayer, but he won't.

(Not hating on minecraft by any means. I like that game as well, but the first person perspective just makes me nauseous and gives me headaches.)

The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold [review]

This post contains affiliate links.

Summary (from goodreads):
The Lovely Bones is the story of a family devastated by a gruesome murder -- a murder recounted by the teenage victim. Upsetting, you say? Remarkably, first-time novelist Alice Sebold takes this difficult material and delivers a compelling and accomplished exploration of a fractured family's need for peace and closure.

The details of the crime are laid out in the first few pages: from her vantage point in heaven, Susie Salmon describes how she was confronted by the murderer one December afternoon on her way home from school. Lured into an underground hiding place, she was raped and killed. But what the reader knows, her family does not. Anxiously, we keep vigil with Susie, aching for her grieving family, desperate for the killer to be found and punished.

Edition Read: overdrive ebook

Where to buy: kobo*, google play, amazon*, nook*, book depository*, thriftbooks*

Thoughts:
This one had me intrigued. It's a suspenseful mystery book... without any suspense or mystery.
By the end of the first chapter, you know what happened and who did it.

There are quite a few dull spots that meander without much purpose.

The heaven concept is unique. I wish we got to spend a little more time there.

I appreciate the ending, but it left me a little disappointed. Then again, this is not really a mystery/suspense book.

Verdict:

A solid read and an interesting experience. A little boring here and there. The ending was okay, but a little unsatisfying... like life sometimes. (Maybe that was the point?)

What were your worst movies based off of books? Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog
I'm actually fairly forgiving about screen adaptations, but off the top of my head...

The Giver was pretty bad. It's not a terrible movie, but it's not a good one. It just does not do justice to the depth of the book.

My Favorite .. Art

This week's topic: Art

I'm not really a bit "art" person. Not that I don't like or appreciate it, but I'm certainly not someone you can walk up to and discuss how you liked a particular piece or do I know this new person who is still alive sort of thing.

It's like music. I like what I like and I know it when I see it.
The rest is just relative.

Off the top of my head, my favorite art are these random mirrors I came across in a thrift store.

The two on the right. Although, the art on the purse is cute.

Normally, I don't do the whole link to the original sized picture, but the thumbnail here does NOT do these mirrors justice.

I almost didn't buy them because there were only two and they are clearly part of a set (Summer and Autumn, lol).
After some research I have found that they are prints from artwork by Alphonse Mucha.
(You can find the full set here.)

All of his artwork is really stunning.

Could you ever pick a favorite book or is it like choosing your favorite child? Elizabeth @Silver's Reviews
Definitely like choosing a favorite child. I have way too many favorites to narrow it down to just one.

(Here are just some of my favorites off the top of my head.)

This week's topic: Book Blogger Experience

I've only been doing this pretty regularly for about a year. (Blogiversary is June 13th O_O)

I will have to say participating in the memes.
I have tried book blogging in the past and it never stuck because I went it alone. Being involved in this community has been amazing. Even if we have different tastes in books and formats, we all love books!

This is, seriously, the most supportive online group I've ever "belonged" to.
I love it.

Mailbox Monday #3

Mailbox Monday is a meme started by Marcia of To Be Continued. Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week.

I rushed last month's post. I ended up leaving off physical book purchases (which I rarely make) and freebies.

Judge Judy via giphy

I've decided to just start over here instead of trying to continuously back track.
I may, or may not, have gotten a bit carried away with the sales this month.
