No more moving.
Now to deal with a house full of clutter.

For Banned Book Week, I read Anne Frank, Diary of a Young Girl.
Full disclosure, I will not be reviewing this one.
I don't feel this is something that should be reviewed in the traditional sense. The merit is not in the quality of writing or in great storytelling, but in what it contributes to history and society as a whole. THAT is immeasurable. Any rating I (or anyone) can give cannot do justice to what has been endured and the legacy left behind.

I lied about Tuesday and Friday. ^^;
Well, not "lied", but preplanned and didn't follow through.
Oops.

I'm currently debating turning my "watching" section into a weekly meme/feature so I can actually review it more in depth if I choose to.

Watching

The Great American Read!

If you are just starting, I feel you should know that you do not have to start at the beginning. Episode 1 was actually a two hour special aired at the beginning of summer to get everyone hyped. Episode 2 (Fall Kick Off) is just a one hour rehash using the some of the same footage of episode 1. You could actually skip both if you wanted to.

I love how they are interviewing people from all walks of life. It's just so well done, I can't wait for next week (Villains and Monsters)!

Hidden Bodies - Caroline Kepnes

In a word...

Unnecessary

I loved the first book.
I was hesitant to read a second one. The first one pretty much ended exactly where it needed to.

I was told by a facebook book club that this one, while no where near as good as the first one, is still a good read.

Well...

I disagree.

(I apologize for the vagueness. It's hard to get into it without spoiling the plot.)

Hidden Bodies starts off well enough.
Once again, Joe is in love. He is charming, he's changed from his previous relationship with Beck, but he is still creepy and obsessive. You know it won't end well.
And then... a thing happens, Joe moves to California, and the plot takes a massive nosedive and goes wide.

Much of this book seems forced. It just has to be edgier, creepier, more crude.
It just tried too hard and it doesn't work.

I still highly recommend You, but take a pass on this one.

Life

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Friday was the husband's BIG appointment to find out if he can go back to work or not.
He goes back tomorrow!

Had some stuff come up at the apartment and got to spend all of Monday and Tuesday dealing with it. :/ I wish we were out already, but we aren't officially out until the 30th. Bleh.
We did, however, get most of our stuff out then and Saturday, so that's something. Just waiting to turn the keys in next weekend. #sooverit

My son's mouth finally healed and he is able to eat "crunchy" food again.

My house is now filled with boxes. Unsorted boxes.

The State of the Blog

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

As per above... things came up Monday and Tuesday (which is when I had planned to do the bulk of my ahead blogging) and ... no memes on Tuesday. :(
Good news is that I am all caught up and ready for next week!

Came across a couple read-a-thons. May do one, not sure yet. They are slated for October, which is mostly good because finally all this stuff that piled up on me this summer will be over and I should be able to relax a bit more.

Forever
I liked it, but it was weird.
The previews didn't really do a whole lot to show what the show was about and it was completely unexpected. Let me just say that it's not just a sitcom.

Well worth the watch, just make sure to watch at least the first 2 episodes before bailing.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - Mark Haddon

kobo . google play . amazon . b&n
thriftbooks . book depository

Only read this one because it was on the Great American Read list.
I didn't know what to expect going into it other than it is one of the top 100 favorites of US readers.

In a word...

Curious.

I didn't like the random mathematic tangents.
Don't get me wrong, some of it was relevant, but it was so bombarding that I found myself skimming later on. (Maybe that was the point?)

The story is weird. Not "bad" weird, it just went way into a different direction than I could have ever imagined. Experiencing the world through Christopher's eyes was interesting. There is a nice balance of Christopher's detachment and the complete chaotic drama that unfolds around him. I didn't find myself too invested in the other characters, but wanted to find out what would happen to Christopher. I cannot tell if that was by design or just a happy coincidence, either way, it works well!

Book Blogger Hop: September 21st - 27th

Do you like to finish one book before starting the next or do you read several at once? Cathy @ What Cathy Read Next
Once upon a time, I used to read several books at once. I'd usually have one very long book and then I would take breaks by reading much shorter ones in the middle. I did it all day, every day, and for some weird reason, it used to drive my mom nuts. LOL

These days, I find it a little harder to concentrate, so I will generally stick to one at a time. Though sometimes I will throw in an audiobook (to occupy myself while doing things I can't do with eye-reading). I've fallen out of the habit of audiobooks, so my book-listening skills aren't quite up to par at the moment.

Life

.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.~*.*~.

Hurricane Florence has been a real roller coaster. For those who don't know, I'm in coastal Virginia. We were prepping for Isabel levels of destruction and then the hurricane turned south.

I hope everyone in North and South Carolina are safe and unharmed.

We are still in the process of moving out of the apartment and have until the end of September.
We are going to get a truck and some people to (finally) move the last of our big things out next weekend. I think once that happens, things will go a bit faster.

My husband is now able to walk without crutches or a boot. He goes in next Friday to see if he is cleared for work. (Cross your fingers!) He said he is walking well enough that he can actually come to the apartment and help out.

My son had tooth surgery yesterday. Luckily, the appointment was in the morning, so the whole "no eating after midnight" wasn't so bad.

I've been having issues with my Kobo Aura One syncing with my Overdrive account. I've been trying to get help, but the normal stuff isn't working. I even had to do a factory reset and still... nothing. I can check out books and download them just fine, but if I have holds I have to side load. :/
Last time this happened, it ended up fixing on it's own.

Bring Me Back - B.A. Paris

In a word...

Disappointed.

Parts one and two were equally blah. There wasn't anything that had me wanting to read the next page and often I couldn't be bothered to.

Part three is different. It's a bit wonky and could use some polishing, but I actually kept myself awake to finish it - which is something I was, literally, unable to do for the first two portions.
While the twist was not quite believable, the ending was appropriate and satisfying, unfortunately the rest of the book was too much of a slog to make up for it.

I received a copy of this book from netgalley for a fair and honest review.

Dread Nation - Justina Ireland

I've been having a weird longing for a Little House on the Prairie meets zombies scenario.
While this one doesn't quite fit the above description... it definitely scratches that itch.

It was a fun ride and sped through it in a matter of hours.
I hope there is a second one.

Full Confession

I started writing this review over a month ago and don't have much to say about it. other than the above.
